Been absent
Our friend Karl pictured here had a massive heart attack in one of our winter spinning classes..technically he was dead and was administered cpr as well as the paddles to restart his heart. He did survive after the Dr's had put stents in his arteries to clear the blocked ones. That was February, not shortly after all of this, Dr. Karl was out riding with his buddies and doing all of the things us cyclists love to do. This picture was taken when we were at his surprise birthday part last month. His friends who revived him from his death experience made this shirt for him. Monday a.m. he passed away in his sleep, I can't tell you the grief we've been feeling. I loved Dr. Karl and so did everyone else who knew him. Saturday will be his funeral and it will be very difficult for us all.
This past weekend was our Canadian holiday so I went back up there to visit with family. It was probably the hottest yet this year, near 95 out on my bike ride..ughhh welcome summer.

Dances with dirt 55 miler done!
Dances with Dirt is not your little pansy 26.2 race or Ironman race, or whatever. This is a bone jarring crazy mother effing race. Held down in Brown County, In, where the woods and giant hills and valley, streams and trees and weeds are very prevalent. I couldn't believe what I was talked into and regretted every starting this POS race..:)) Actually it was fun and challenging and I think I may have poison ivy. My back and legs are freaking killing me today, but I'm glad I was a part of this relay team covering over 55 miles of the worst terrain i've ever had the stupidity of traveling. YES, it was stupid...even stupider were the people who did the solo 50 miler in this awful area of the USA. Just crazy!!!!!!!!!!

Mini Finish
If you've never done the mini500, it is a must for your "to do" list! It was hot sticky and humid, but that didn't stop over 35,000 runners and walkers from coming out and enjoying the race. I did a lot of walking, enjoying people and watching all of the bands and activities along the way. I'm glad I had the chance to do this and can't wait to do it again. This weekend I'll be doing some real trail running during our 50k dances with dirt down in brown county Indiana!

This weekend is the mini500 half marathon. I'm run/walking it with a lady friend I know who is in her 60's and I promised to stay with throughout the race. It's going to be stinking hot and I'm worried about doing this "that" slow. I guess we'll get through it, but I'm hoping I'll survive this!!!
Wish me luck and happy racing!!!
